  • Improved Resolution of Mycotoxins from Cereal

Mycotoxins are a diverse group comprised of hundreds of secondary metabolic products of various fungal species. Several show marked toxicity in humans. Contamination of the food supply with mycotoxins is increasingly prevalent, and can occur during growth, harvest, transportation, processing or storage. Techniques to reduce mycotoxin concentration after contamination are expensive, unreliable and sometimes reversible. Therefore, the removal of contaminated products from the food chain is a primary means of eliminating human exposure. The sensitive and accurate detection of very low levels of these compounds is critical to efforts to identify contaminated products. LC-MS/MS is a popular analytical technique for this purpose. This application explores using Ascentis® Express RP-Amide and Ascentis Express F5 HPLC columns to perform this analysis.

  • Measuring Ion Concentrations in Hydroponics Samples

    Required Apparatus:

    • Aptisens Digital or Mobile Multiple Ion Kit

    Required chemicals:

    • Aptisens multiple ion conditioning solution
    • Aptisens multiple ion HORTICULTURE calibration solutions
    • Deionised water

    Sample Preparation:
Typically, it is not a requirement to filter a hydroponics sample.

    Calibration:
Before use the multiple ion probe must be conditioned in Aptisens multiple ion conditioning solution. Ensure the correct calibration solutions for a three-point calibration are set up on the Mobile meter or MeterLink. Follow the instructions for calibration and proceed to take a sample reading when the calibration data is ‘very good’ or ‘good’ for all ions.

    Sample Reading:
Place the probe in the aqueous extract and ‘Take a Sample’ reading. The concentrations for each ion will be displayed in ppm or mmol / L.

    Probe Care:
After taking your reading be sure to remove the sensors from the solution as quickly as possible, rinse with deionised water and replace the cap of the probe.

  • Water treatment for dairy

Because of its superior disinfection ability, many applications of chlorine dioxide have been found to be extremely beneficial in the dairy industry. Dosing the drinking water lines has led to the reduction in bacteria in the water and thus decreased the somatic cell count in the milk. Replacing iodine with chlorine dioxide as the active ingredient in teat dips has led to reduced mastitis cases. Using chlorine dioxide as a CIP agent in the milk line disinfection has brought a decrease in the E-coli count found in the milk, thus increasing milk quality. Using chlorine dioxide in cow washes has led to reduction in mastitis, decreased hairy hoof wart cases and overall improved herd health.

  • Greenhouse Irrigation Management

Why efficient irrigation is important. Water and fertilizers are essential to the growth of your crop. However, these resources are becoming increasingly scarce worldwide. Modern horticulture has various possibilities for saving water and fertilizers. For example, recirculation of drain water reduces consumption by at least 30%. Exact alignment of the plant’s needs and the irrigation also provides an important contribution to savings. An associated advantage is that an optimal irrigation strategy will increase your crop performance and your profit. Water solutions for your horticultural company With sustainable automation solutions from Hoogendoorn, you can regulate the irrigation in your greenhouse and in your open field in a targeted manner. The innovative iSii process computer precisely coordinates the dosage of various water sources such as rainwater, well water and drain water with the demands of the crop. Wherever possible, iSii also regulates the complete recirculation and disinfection of drain water. The advanced software anticipates changing conditions pro-actively. For example, the frequency and duration of irrigation sessions are adjusted prior to times of more or less sunshine. Based on the measured water intake of the plants and the water content of the soil or substrate, the irrigation can be tailored even more precisely to the growth process

  • Ozone generators for pest control application

Pesticides were commonly used for the pest control in farms since they have high and rapid insecticidal effects and enable us to increase yields of crops. However, the pesticides cause some problems: soil and groundwater pollution and residual chemicals in crops harmful to consumers. Recently, wider implementation of ozone sterilization in agriculture seems to be one of the promising techniques to secure the safety of foods.

  • Monitoring Equipment for Fish Farms

OxyGuard was founded as the first company in the world dedicated to providing metering, monitoring and control equipment to fish farms. The oxygen probes and multi-channel systems were revolutionary, and helped fish farming grow into the Aquaculture Industry that it is today.

Whether you need a hand-held DO meter or a system that can control your entire fish farm, OxyGuard equipment will help you run a profitable business. The return on investment time for OxyGuard equipment is short, even if you already monitor water quality the improved accuracy and stability of OxyGuard DO probes and control systems will give you considerable benefits.

OxyGuard gained a reputation for excellence that led to a demand for other products and from other markets, but the company`s main focus is still on aquaculture. Improvements and the introduction of new technology have taken place, but the company philosophy is still to provide the fish farmer with precisely the equipment that is needed.

Previously a simple oxygen measurement was enough - this is not the case today. The Aquaculture industry has grown; the demands to fish farming methods and the equipment used have grown with it. OxyGuard have designed the Commander system to meet these demands - and have made sure that Commander has the scope and flexibility to meet future demands.

  • Soil Analysis for Agriculture and Soils

Field portable spectrometers are widely used for geologic remote sensing and mineral analysis applications. Recently, geologists have recognized that these same methods of reflectance spectroscopy have far reaching applications beyond remote sensing. Increasingly more applications in the geological science disciplines are surfacing, such as determining the composition of clay-rich soils for swell potential, and assessment and monitoring quality in cement manufacturing throughout the entire process—from characterizing raw materials, to quantitative analysis of the ground cement product, on through quality control of the materials entering the `feeder` and molten clinker (the apparatus used in the final cement product).
