The agriculture industry is a water intensive industry that needs a constant contaminant free water supply to ensure high harvest yields and healthy farm livestock. This requires agriculture water treatment solutions and specific soil additives that are sustainable and environmentally friendly. Agriculture water treatment and waste water treatment is essential to prevent bacteria, fungus, while reducing pesticide and nutrient pollution degradation of farmland used in commercial agriculture and horticulture operations. Genesis Water Technologies can engineer, build and provide sustainable agriculture water treatment and wastewater reuse systems as well as specific soil mediums for both greenhouse nurseries and commercial farming operations.

In broiler and layer farms, drinking water is often acidified to obtain a lower pH in order to stimulate the feed intake of the birds. However, doing so counteracts the efficacy of chlorine, since this most commonly used disinfectant requires a higher rather than a lower pH of the drinking water. Consequently, more chlorine is needed to compensate the diminishing effect caused by the organic acid, which in turn results in uncontrolled (over)dosing. With chlorine dioxide, nothing of this kind occurs since chlorine dioxide functions perfectly between pH 4 and 10. With chlorine dioxide, it is much easier to influence and improve poultry growing conditions.

Aquaculture is the fastest growing meat protein industry in the world. Microbial Discovery Group’s in-depth understanding of water quality, feed conversion, and disease prevention creates strong value-add partnerships.Similar to any other farming system, the aquaculture industry must confront environmental problems resulting from the industry’s intensification and commercialization. The need to produce and yield more tends to push these systems to the brink of failure. Success stems from understanding the aquaculture host, nutrition, water quality environment and the symbiotic microbial relationship of the direct fed probiotics. Microbial Discovery Group is active in solving problems facing the aquaculture industry. We can help with your water quality, FCR and overall yield needs – fast.
Drawing on our animal agriculture experience, we have a unique approach to aquaculture problems. Do you need some new ideas that work?

Intensive commercial shrimp farming began in the late 1960s led in part by technological advances and growing market demand. Today, shrimp farming is so intensive (in some cases close to 300 000 shrimps per hectare) that it requires industrially prepared shrimp feeds, fertilizing the ponds to stimulate the growth of organisms, aeration to prevent oxygen depletion and regular tidal water exchange. Solmax geomembranes have been used in some of the largest shrimp pond projects in the world. There are several key benefits of lining shrimp ponds with geomembranes. Durable and robust, the HDPE surface prevents weeds, grasses, mud and other obstructive contaminants from entering the pond. The HDPE substrate is known to reduce the suitability of the environment for bacteria thereby reducing the need for antibiotics. Geomembranes can also protect the slopes and banks from erosion and allow for easy detection and rapid removal of sediment and waste products.
Here are several factors to consider when deciding which type of geomembrane to use in a Shrimp Pond application:
- Stress crack resistance
- Tensile and elongation properties
- Tear and puncture resistance
- Duration of the project
- U.V exposure

Surface preparation: Your pond surface needs to be clean, dry and structurally sound. We suggest not using any detergents in your Pond. A medium bristle brush and water is all that is needed. You want the surface to be clean of any dirt that will be picked up with the nap of the roller or in the paintbrush used during the application process. Avoid cleaners and detergents since any remaining residue may harm your fish or plants. Only if your pond does not have plants or fish should you consider using cleaning solutions. On an epdm liner that has not been coated with other coatings it is simply a one coat application of PondPro2000.

Measuring Ion Concentrations in Plant Tissue
- Aptisens Digital or Mobile Multiple Ion Kit
- Weighing scales
- Liquid measurement device e.g. graduated cylinder
- Bowl for stirring
- Spoon for stirring
- Filter paper / muslin
- Conical flask / vessel
- Aptisens multiple ion conditioning solution
- Aptisens Plant Tissue multiple ion calibration solutions
- Deionised water
This preparation can be applied to any plant tissue. Take a sample of lettuce and remove any soil but do not wash the plant tissue as doing so may reduce the number of ions in sample. Weigh this sample and record (say 100 g). Macerate the plant tissue in a blender and add a known amount of hot deionised water to the sample to extract the nutrients. For example, dilute the sample two-fold (200 mL), three-fold (300 mL) or five-fold (500 mL). Ensure all the plant tissue is covered with water and leave to sit for approximately 30 min with some stirring. The sample then needs to be filtered.
Set up a funnel with folded filter paper in a conical flask or any vessel that can hold a funnel. Pour the plant tissue and water into the funnel and allow the mixture to filter. Collect the filtrate.
Before use the multiple ion probe must be conditioned in Aptisens multiple ion conditioning solution. Ensure the correct calibration solutions for a three-point calibration are set up on the Mobile meter or MeterLink. Follow the instructions for calibration and proceed to take a sample reading when the calibration data is ‘very good’ or ‘good’ for all ions.
Place the probe in the plant tissue filtrate and ‘Take a Sample’ reading. The concentrations for each ion will be displayed in ppm or mmol / L.
Remember to multiply these concentrations by the dilution factor.
After taking your reading be sure to remove the sensors from the solution as quickly as possible, rinse with deionised water and replace the cap of the probe

OxyGuard was founded as the first company in the world dedicated to providing metering, monitoring and control equipment to fish farms. The oxygen probes and multi-channel systems were revolutionary, and helped fish farming grow into the Aquaculture Industry that it is today.
Whether you need a hand-held DO meter or a system that can control your entire fish farm, OxyGuard equipment will help you run a profitable business. The return on investment time for OxyGuard equipment is short, even if you already monitor water quality the improved accuracy and stability of OxyGuard DO probes and control systems will give you considerable benefits.
OxyGuard gained a reputation for excellence that led to a demand for other products and from other markets, but the company`s main focus is still on aquaculture. Improvements and the introduction of new technology have taken place, but the company philosophy is still to provide the fish farmer with precisely the equipment that is needed.
Previously a simple oxygen measurement was enough - this is not the case today. The Aquaculture industry has grown; the demands to fish farming methods and the equipment used have grown with it. OxyGuard have designed the Commander system to meet these demands - and have made sure that Commander has the scope and flexibility to meet future demands.

Automatic crop and garden irrigation has never been easier! The Micro Rain line of travelers offers a cost effective, portable method for effective crop and garden irrigation. Famers and gardeners have many problems when trying to irrigation their acreages, such as dragging around hose, standing out and sweating in the sun, etc. These machines are designed to be extremely user friendly, have unparalleled performance, and operate completely unattended. They are a great alternative to in-ground irrigation systems which are typically more expensive, higher maintenance, and have sprinkler heads that often need to be repaired, causing damage to the garden. Proven garden and crop programs that include aeration, fertilization, and a Micro Rain irrigation system with its uniform water applications will ensure your garden or crop field has a `softer feel` and healthier look.
