UV water disinfection solutions for fish farms and hatcheries - Agriculture - Aquaculture
Our UV water disinfection technology is used in fish farms, mussel farms, aquariums and hatcheries. The benefits of UV disinfection has led to the production of healthier and larger fish, improved water quality, possible increases in stock density and vastly reduces the risk of disease. UV light is a chemical free treatment that cannot be overdosed, ensuring the physical characteristics of the water, such as PH levels and temperature, remain unchanged whilst avoiding the introduction of harmful toxins, such as chlorine into the environment.

No micro-organism is known to be immune to UV, it is non-selective in the destruction of all waterborne bacteria, pathogens, viruses and micro-organisms.
Organisms responsible for fish diseases, which are treatable using atg UV Technology are:
Infectious Salmon Anaemia (ISA) | Viral Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (VHS) | Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis (IPN) | Bacterial Kidney Disease (BKD) | Enteric Redmouth Disease (ERD) | Coldwater Disease (CWD) | Salmon papilloma virus | Salmon Swim Bladder Sarcoma Virus (SSSV) | Ulcerative Dermal Necrosis | Vibrio Anguillarum | Viral Nervous Necrosis (VNN) | Ichtyophthirius (White Spot) | Saprolegnia (Fungal Disease)
UV Water Disinfection for Fish Farms and Hatcheries Boost Stocks
Market pressures have led to a demand for more wholesome, chemical and antibiotic free products, thus in order to remain competitive more intensive farming and greater yields are needed. Fish farms are often located in close proximity.
Effluent discharges from one farm poses a significant threat of contamination to another. UV light water treatment is proven to provide an effective barrier against harmful micro-organisms, whilst atg UV’s leading wiper design allows for disinfection of wastewater.
Egg production and fry growth in hatcheries are critical applications for Ultraviolet Disinfection. Safeguarding brood-stock, improving yields and reducing mortality are all benefits of installing UV Technology, whilst avoiding the spread of infection and disease.
Similarly, shell production utilises large volumes of water in holding tanks, rinse water and process water. UV disinfection is critical to these production applications to avoid contamination without the need of harsh chemical disinfectants. Ultimately increasing production yields.
Re-Circulating Systems (RAS)
Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) are the newest form of fish farming production. RAS are typically indoor systems that allow farmers to control environmental conditions (temperature, pH, oxygen levels, etc.) all year round. The only water replacement is the water lost to evaporation and cleaning. The costs associated with constructing a RAS are typically higher than either pond or cage culture and these systems are being built in countries where coastal land costs and labour costs are high. Almost all designs include either UV or ozone treatment.
UV Light Water Treatment in Aquariums, Zoos & Laboratories
Traditional Ozone systems are being replaced with next generation UV technology systems due to the vast benefits that UV technology offers. The chemical-free treatment protects against numerous harmful pathogens without affecting the waters natural chemistry, taste and odour.
UV can be used in many applications, from aquariums and wash water to large open sea lion pools and water features, also ensuring that effluent discharges are environmentally safe and do not become a source of contamination.
Well Boats
In modern fish farming, live fish are exposed to many microbiological threats whilst being transported in well-boats, from onshore and offshore aquaculture farming facilities.
Chemical-free UV disinfection is the treatment technology of choice, protecting against numerous harmful pathogens without affecting the waters natural chemistry, taste and odour.
atg UV Technology’s ultra-compact WF range is specifically designed for well boat installations and provide a high level of disinfection for intake, discharge and recirculating water used during fish transportation, protecting fish, minimising vaccinations and increasing stock yields.
