Measurement of oil & moisture in fish feed for agriculture sector

The measurement of oil and moisture in fish feed is essential within fish farming, an important and growing industry providing high quality food for a growing global population. Fish feed is a key part of the ecology and economics of the industry making the control of the nutritional content and perceived quality of the product essential. Our Benchtop NMR Analyser - MQC system provides a fast, simple and accurate method of measuring the key parameters of oil and moisture in fish feed without the need for solvent extraction and oven drying which are slow, labour intensive and require skilled operators. In addition, the instrument is directly and linearly related to hydrogen content (of the oil/moisture) which means that chemometric analysis in comination with a very large set of calibration standards are not required.

  • Microbial Solutions for Aquaculture

Aquaculture is the fastest growing meat protein industry in the world. Microbial Discovery Group’s in-depth understanding of water quality, feed conversion, and disease prevention creates strong value-add partnerships.

Similar to any other farming system, the aquaculture industry must confront environmental problems resulting from the industry’s intensification and commercialization. The need to produce and yield more tends to push these systems to the brink of failure.  Success stems from understanding the aquaculture host, nutrition, water quality environment and the symbiotic microbial relationship of the direct fed probiotics. Microbial Discovery Group is active in solving problems facing the aquaculture industry. We can help with your water quality, FCR and overall yield needs – fast.

Drawing on our animal agriculture experience, we have a unique approach to aquaculture problems. Do you need some new ideas that work?

  • Odor control for the aqua feed industry

During the processes in the aqua feed industry large air volumes are emitted containing a lot of smelly components. This can cause annoyance in the surrounding neighbourhood.

  • Aquaculture Enzymes

Economical fish and shrimp production requires maximum nutritional efficiency from feed. Enzymes, including phytase, xylanase, cellulase, protease, lipase, and amylase increase the availability of nutrients, increase absorption of nutrients during digestion, increase fish growth rates, and assist in the survival and thriving of fish in the larval stage. Also, the use of lower cost feedstuffs is made possible for aquaculture with the use of added enzymes. Nutrients that are not digestible using the fish’s normal digestive enzymes become digestible when appropriate enzymes are added to these less expensive feedstuffs.

  • Water quality monitoring for aquaculture industry

A clean and pathogen free water source is essential to prevent infections from being introduced and spreading in a hatchery. Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection of water for inactivation of pathogens is recognized as a safe and effective method for use in the aquaculture industry. Continuous monitoring of water quality by measure of UV transmission (UVT) ensures the UV light is able to penetrate the water effectively and achieve the optimal dose.

  • Ozone Water Treatment for Aquaculture

Three reasons why ozone in aquaculture improves water quality and increase aquaculture productivity. As recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) operate by reusing the fish tank water it is essential to control the water quality. Many studies show that treating RAS systems with ozone increases productivity as fish health and survival is increased.

  • Onsite Oxygen Technology for Aquaculture

OGSI Leads the Way in Onsite Oxygen Technology for Aquaculture The OGSI oxygen system is an efficient and cost-effective means by which to increase the dissolved oxygen (DO) level in an Aquaculture system. The system was developed by OGSI. It enables fish farms to dissolve oxygen in any size tank. Farms are able to increase stocking densities. The fish are also healthier and have better taste when raised in an oxygen rich environment.

  • Aeration of Crayfish Basins

Crayfish is a very demanding species when it comes to the quality of water. One of the most important facts is the sufficient content of oxygen concentration in water. Actually the crayfish is just as demanding as salmonoids about oxygen content. During warmer seasons oxygen content of the water should be at least 5 mg/l (oxygen saturation at least 50 %). In the winter the crayfish can adapt to short periods with 2 – 3 mg/l content if all the other environmental conditions are favorable.

Crayfish basins are rather small usually, so Waterix AIRIT® Micro is an excellent choice. The device is lightweight but boasts exceptionally high operating efficiency and output. AIRIT® Micro ensures oxygen content throughout the crayfish basin is always in excess of 5 mg/l. This enables the crayfish maturity period to be perfect in respect to oxygen content.AIRIT® Micro can be used throughout the year or when the water starts to stratify.

  • Ozone generator

The irrigation with ozonized water systems consists on providing a greater amount of oxygen to the root arriving free of virus, bacteria, fungi, seaweed, spores and any other microorganism, reason why it is obtained a faster growth than the habitual one, with more aliveness and force as well as more productivity. This system is very beneficial for the irrigation, such as fruit trees, vineyards, and cultures in general obtaining the prevention of diseases in the plants. Ozone has an oxidizing power greater than the Oxygen one, so for that reason it improves the respiratory process at cellular level. The direct germicidal action of Ozone is also well-known against all type of microorganisms, as much fungi as bacteria and virus.
