Australian Lychee Growers to Export to US
Lychees are a sub-tropical fruit grown in tropical Far North Queensland, Central Queensland, South East Queensland and Northern NSW. Australia has the longest lychee season in the world which begins in late October and finishes around late March and produces around 3000 tonnes each year.
The new US trial has been developed in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), and the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of Australia, which have jointly set up an operational work plan for the program. At this stage the growers intend to export mainly the “Kwai May Pink” variety.

Countries that Australian lychees are currently exported to are New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Tahiti, Hong Kong, Middle East, Canada, the UK and Europe.
