Butchers beef up their animal incinerator capacity
They were so pleased with their last one that they have come back to us again.
After reading this headline you may be wondering just why on earth a butcher would need an animal incinerator, but in fact the answer is rather simple and when this particular butcher decided that it was time to invest in a new model they had no hesitation whatsoever in coming back to us.
Our customer is a large wholesale butchery concern that is based in Devon and in addition to the preparation and distribution of meat they also operate their own abattoir.
Before the BSE crisis in the early years of this century most of the animal remains went back into the food chain, but following the outbreak it was prohibited to use certain parts of the animal such as the spinal columns, heads and feet. Consequently large abattoirs and butchery businesses were obliged to safely dispose of these parts using an approved animal incinerator.
Some establishments contracted out this operation to licensed waste disposal companies while others, including our customer, preferred to invest in, install and operate their own animal incinerator facility. One reason for this decision of course was that it enabled them to control costs. Other and equally important considerations included the fact that they could dispose of the waste quickly and hygienically and therefore were able to eliminate lengthy storage times and along with this the risk of smells and disease. Operating their own animal incinerator also meant that they negated any of the bio risks that can be associated with moving animal waste by road transport.
Today many of these health and safety restrictions have now been lifted, but many large butchery businesses and abattoirs still prefer to dispose of waste using their own incineration facility. This successful and progressive butchery organisation is a perfect example of this philosophy and they purchased their first animal incinerator from us in 2003. Now they have come back to us and we have recently supplied a Surefire SA50/2 DEFRA Approved Animal Incinerator.
The Todaysure Matthews Surefire animal incinerators are wholly UK manufactured in our own workshops and the SA50 is an internationally approved heavy steel incinerator having a 1600°C refractory. Our advanced design ensures the rapid and efficient combustion of the animal remains whilst at the same time it ensures that there are no harmful or odorous emissions to the atmosphere.
