Case study 106: Salinity neutralization - well water
Operational Profile
Farm Name: Estate in Hope Ranch
Crop Type: Avocados,Grapes & Pasture
Location: Santa Barbara,California
Total Acres: 14
Acres Treated: 14
Irrigation: Drip /Sprinkler
Season: 1 Year
Water Source: Groundwater
Key Findings:
- Leaf burn vanished
- Avocados began filling in
- Very little botrytis on the grape bunches
- 25% reduction in the use of fertilizer
- General landscape improved
Problem
The estate was being irrigated with municipal water and the bill was extremely high and the owner wanted to convert to ground water but being so close to the ocean meant that the groundwater supply was extremely salty. Sodium and other contaminants frequently become encapsulated within water clusters of water bound by electrons. This causes a blockage within the plant which restricts water and micro-nutrient flow to the furthest part of the plant. This results in leaf burn, yellow leaves, defoliation, a reduction in health, and ultimately a decrease in the plant’s ability to yield a strong crop.
Irrigation Enhancer Process
The Irrigation Enhancer improves irrigation water by eliminating the water molecules ability to bond to other molecules or to any foreign contaminants contained within the water. The Irrigation Enhancer achieves this by breaking dipole bonds and stripping valence electrons from the water and foreign contaminants, thereby leaving the water in a positively ionized state. By removing the electrons that naturally bond water molecules with salt and other contaminants, the Irrigation Enhancer generates enhanced water that is able to flow past salt and up into the plant.
Solution
Installed a 2” Irrigation Enhancer on field being effected by high levels of salinity found in well water being used to irrigate crops.
Results
Using the Eco1st Irrigation Enhancer to neutralize salinity and the negative effects it was having on the 14 acre property was successful. The reports from the owner concluded that the Irrigation Enhancer was able to bring his plants up to very good health while using sodium rich groundwater as his water source. Key results include:
- Avocados began filling in, coming out of stunted growth with no leaf burn
- Grapes began to grow out of stunted stage
- There was very little botrytis on the grape bunches despite close proximity to ocean and fog
- There has been a 25% reduction in the use of fertilizer
- Finding much less clogging in irrigation emitters
- The general landscape along with formal rose garden improved, showing much less disease and insect pressure
