A 77 meter rainwater reservoir for fire extinguishing purposes was completely covered with filamentous green algae. The green filamentous algae clogs regularly filters located before the jockey pumps.
The Challenge: Control Green Algae and Lower the Use of Oxygen Peroxide
Located in Tilloy-lès Mofflaines, France, the 77 meter long rainwater reservoir for fire extinguishing purposes was completely covered with filamentous green algae. Every year the factory empties the basin for maintenance and dosing oxygen peroxide (200 ppm) to control algae.
The Solution: Control Algae with the LG Sonic e-line
As an environmentally friendly solution, the use of ultrasonic treatment can be used to control algae. Ultrasonic treatment uses high frequency sound waves to control algae growth in open balance tanks. To cover the 3.000 m2 of water surface, it was decided to install 1 LG Sonic device. The unit were connected to a local power source and secured with cables.
The Results: Algae Disappeared Completely
After 2 weeks of the installation, the results were satisfactory. Filamentous algae had disappeared completely from the surface. Debris of the dead algae sank to the bottom and degrade naturally. After 2 weeks of the installation, the results were exceptional. The algae disappeared completey from the surface and clogging in filters is no longer an issue.
