The group has five factories located throughout Thailand; on a typical day, they produce 2,800 tons of tapioca between them. The crop is processed within 24 hours with their state of the art production process and turned into tapioca starch or fibre for use in the paper industry, plywood, textiles, glue and the food and beverage industry.
The process of crop cleaning produces a substantial amount of waste water. To prevent any environmental pollution from this process, the water is treated to ensure it is safe for the use for local agricultural purposes. Another revenue stream for the company is using the waste water to produce electricity. This is done by using the off-gas collected from the waste water stream which, in turn runs through the CHP engine which produces the electricity.
The Geotech product
The Roi et Group recently expanded their business in order to sell the electricity that they generate and they needed a fixed gas analyser to help them to monitor the quality of biogas produced before feeding into generator. They chose Geotech’s GA3000 PLUS continuous gas monitor to be installed within the process as they required CH4 measurement to ensure best gas quality and H2S control for engine protection. Operators from the Roi et Group had commented how satisfied they were with the precise and consistent H2S levels that the unit measured and that this gave them great confidence in the smooth running of the complete biogas operation. They were also impressed with the powerful pump within the GA3000 PLUS, designed not only to minimise problems from condensate but also its capacity of measuring from a vacuum of up to -350 mbar. Of all the options available to the company, they went with the Geotech product because of its low cost of total ownership.
The GA3000 PLUS in use
The GA3000 PLUS is ATEX certified, ISO 17025 accredited and an integral part of the smooth running of many AD sites. The unit supports gas analysis by providing consistent and reliable collection of data. It also measures pre and post desulphurisation levels to ensure that the desulphurisation process is working correctly.
