Buildup of sludge in this 12 year old lagoon has been a continual problem. Sludge had to be physically removed and involved the use of heavy equipment and risk of damage to the plastic liner.

Another chronic problem involved the clogging of the irrigation nozzles by the sludge during dewatering resulting in interruptions and manual cleaning.

Wastewater System

This is a large 2200 head confinement dairy that operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It is a continuous flush with influent into a 5 million gallon lagoon averaging 80,000 gallons per day. It is first flushed into a separator then to the lagoon. The average pump out to a row crop field is every thirty days.

ROETECH 106 was added directly to the lagoon at a rate of 2 pounds per 250,000 gallons of volume. This application was repeated again at 15 days. Additional applications of ROETECH 106 were performed daily at the rate of 2 pounds per 1,000,000 gallons thereafter.

Significant activity was visualized at 2 weeks with breakup of sludge and surface bubbling occurring. Noticeable odor reduction was observed at the same time.

After 28 days of treatment with ROETECH 106, sludge had been reduced by 15 to 20% while the lagoon was still receiving the daily 80,000 gallon inflow. Treatment is continuing and sludge reduction is expected to continue based on the results seen to date.
