The Onsite Wastewater Treatment (OWT), also commonly known as Septic Tank System, is supposedly to provide adequate treatment for individual private dwellings.  In reality, because of its poor efficiency and lack of sound engineering design, the OWT has become a modern façade to pollute the land and groundwater resource.  The evapotranspiration bed (ET-bed) system can effectively treat wastewater effluent from OWTs located in scenic and environmentally sensitive areas (e.g., Switzerland and City of Malibu).  When engineered appropriately, it is very effective to locations where space is very limited, when the site does not percolate, when setback between ground surface and groundwater table is less than 5 feet and should be installed in areas located near water bodies.
