Heavy metals are not biodegradable and can accumulate in human vital organs, producing progressive toxicity. Many researches have revealed the carcinogenic effects of several heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg) and arsenic (As) (Trichopoulos 1997; Feig et al. 1994; Gibb and Chen 1989).
