Q&A: Rural women, from farming to trading

In India, where there are more than 30 million small and marginal women farmers, a trade union for self-employed rural women is helping them to create trade organisations so that they can eliminate the middle-men and get their products to market. Umadevi Swaminathan, managing director of RUDI Multi Trading and of the Self Employed Women’s Association, tells us how women can organise themselves to become owners and managers rather than labourers.
