Sustainable limits for golf course development in a tourist destination
Courtesy of Inderscience Publishers
This paper focuses on the sustainable limits of golf courses that could develop into a tourist destination. We consider that any future development for golf courses must be economically profitable and always committed to the environment. To this end we analyse the most important conditioning aspects: first, the economic profit, because the golf courses are business and second, two environmental aspects, use of land and water consumption. Specifically, it looks at the province of Alicante (Spain) where the most important economic sector is tourism, with an emerging sector, golf holidays, that have contributed to the preparation of the presently available 15 courses and 33 projects.
