The important role of the moisture content in different products and materials

Various granules, litter products or foodstuffs must be exposed to a certain amount of moisture in order to remain ready for use or consumption for a long time. Granules need to be stored dry to avoid sticking and remain pourable. Various production steps are also often dependent on ambient temperature and humidity. If the moisture content of the product to be processed is too high, this can lead to poor moulding properties and other problems. Bad conditions can cause a whole series of products to have defects that can reach the end user. This can be avoided by excluding materials with excessive moisture, measured with a moisture meter. With integrated measuring tips, absolute moisture can be determined in wood, building materials, grain, coffee beans, paper, textiles, cotton and other materials. Even wood can only be used if it has a moisture content of less than 20 %. With increasing wood moisture, problems become increasingly likely. Cracks can form and insects are attracted by the damp wood. Roof constructions built with inferior or wet wood can be affected by fungi and the construction can vibrate strongly during thunderstorms and cause cracks in the drywall construction afterwards.
