The report contains eight sections including the introduction. The second section will briefly describe the history and current status of forest resources ini Gabon. The third will look at macroeconomic changes since the start of the oil era. Section 4 describes how this translated into declining competitiveness for agriculture and forestry. The fifth section deals with the forest impact of more specific government policies, like road building or resettlement. Section 6 illustrates the impact of structural changes in income, consumption and demographic variables on forests. Finally, Section 7 summarises the arguments, while Section 8 discusses future policies.
