ALGALIMENTO is a company founded in 2012. Its mission is to produce microalgae, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety and the hygiene of its products. This business idea was born from three local businesses, Juliano Bonny Gomez SL, Group Satocan Desarrollos SL and Lidia Garcia Foundation, aiming to widen their experience in the world of biotechnology, particularly in the production of microalgae with developments at industrial scale. ALGALIMENTO currently offers its products based on microalgae aiming aquaculture, aquariums needs animal and humans food. It is open to collaborate with other companies in the food industry, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical for the development of high value-added products.

ALGALIMENTO SL has a collaboration agreement with The Technological Institute of the Canary Islands, which has been working more than ten years in this area, transferring to Algalimento its knowledge and experience, and training our technicians in the field of biotechnology.The microalgae farming
Microalgae farming is obtaining an increasing prominence. World production is estimated at 5,000 tons of dry microalgae. Its economics arise from its composition, rich in protein and highly digestible carbohydrates, with a fat fraction that can reach 70% of its dry weight. This makes them particularly interesting from a nutritional standpoint. Other valuable components present in microalgae are vitamins (A, B, C, E), provitamins and pigments such as chlorophyll, carotenoids (astaxanthin, beta-carotene, lutein) and phycobiliproteins, all of great commercial interest.
ALGALIMENTO bets on this innovating sector in the Canary Islands, an ideal place for its development, given its mild climate all year round, its sea and its sun, as well as its strategic location. Being a benchmark of future developments, more ambitious and at a larger industrial scale, arises a potential viableactivityfor territories such asthe Canary Islands.

Algalimento has a strong commitment to innovation activities, understood as mechanisms to develop changes in processes and/or products incorporating new strategies, new technologies, etc. The priority of the company is the continuous improvement of product quality and applicability anticipating the market requirements.
Algalimento has a team made up of own research engineers, PhDs in Biology and marine scientists. Algalimento has signed up a collaboration agreement with the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands, which has over 10 years of experience in growing microalgae.
Algalimento is interested in establishing collaborations with public and privates entities that could be interested in the use of microalgae in the food, cosmetic and health sector.
Infrastructure
ALGALIMENTO facilities locate at The Technological Institute of the Canary Islands, ITC (Spain). During the last year, we have built a one hacre production plant, where the following facilities are available:
- Production plant that covers 5.000 m² of cultivable surface.
- Availability of different water sources for hipersaline, marine and fresh water cultures.
- Monitoring system at all raceways.
- An innovative harvesting system.
- Agrifood Laboratory
- Plant for processing the biomass.
