HELPING LOCAL FARMERS SINCE 1940
Brett Brothers Limited is a family run business with decades of experience in dealing with agricultural production.
The Brett Group today employs over 200 people involved in the grain and milling business as well as pig production in our Sunglen pig farm in Threecastles, Co Kilkenny and in Oakpark Foods, Co Tipperary, which is a market leader in pork and bacon consumer products.
IN THE BEGINNING..
It is a long way from the small agricultural merchanting business started by Bridget Brett and her four sons in Windgap, Co Kilkenny back in 1940. Jack Brett was the first Managing Director and his son James J is the Managing Director of the Brett Group since 1986. The present Board consists of six family members.
Since 1940 the company has evolved with the changing economic landscape of Ireland and the European Union. In the 1940’s Brett Brothers Limited were major exporters of rabbits and poultry to war torn Britain. As agriculture developed in the post war period the company became a pivotal force in supplying inputs and advice to farmers as farming moved from subsistence to commercial enterprise.
INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
When Ireland joined the then EEC in 1973 Brett Brothers Limited pursued a major investment programme of expansion in grain handling and storage as well as the construction of a mill in Callan, which opened in 1979. The combination of modern technology with highly trained dedicated staff has established the Brett Family as one of the major players in modern Irish agriculture in the new millennium. The company services farmers throughout Leinster and Munster.
Our sales team is backed up by our Agronomist, Nutritionist and Ruminant Support Specialists to ensure that farmers are offered solutions to every conceivable problem on the farm. It is not our policy to simply sell products; we bring solutions based on the best Teagasc and international research available and assist our customers to achieve profitable and sustainable businesses.
Guaranteed Quality
Down through the years Bretts have recognised the importance of adapting innovation in order to improve the performance of livestock and ultimately improve the profitability of our customers.
Our Nutritionist is always striving to develop new products based on sound scientific research and commercial realism at farm level.
Quality Assurance
At Brett Brothers we manufacture a wide variety of feeds to meet the needs of all our customers and it is our ultimate aim to produce animal feed in a safe and hygienic manner, complying with the highest quality specifications and legal requirements.
As testament to our commitment to producing and supplying the highest quality feed to our customers and achieving the highest quality standards in feed manufacturing, we have a dedicated quality assurance team. Our quality team monitors every aspect of production and our production of animal feed is based on the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Plan (HACCP). This includes raw material intake, haulage, production, following right through to dispatch and customer service.
Ongoing investment in milling technology is seen as a key driver of the business, enabling production efficiencies and a higher standard finished product. Brett Brothers has its own onsite laboratory with a Near Infra Red (NIR) machine which can instantly analyse all raw materials coming into the mill or any finished product leaving the mill. We also work with a range of fully accredited laboratories for specialized independent testing.
ACCREDITATIONBretts attach great importance to official recognition and accreditation under professional industry recognised Quality Schemes, and we are proud that our mill in Callan is certified by the Department of Agriculture, Irish Grain Assurance Scheme (IGAS) and under the prestigious Universal Feed Assurance Scheme (UFAS).
Accreditation to these schemes provides reassurance on quality and traceability to the farmer, and also further along the food chain to the consumer and strengthens the links in the chain from field to fork.
NATIVE GRAINBretts have a long-standing tradition of sourcing native Irish grain from the farmers of counties Kilkenny, Tipperary, Wexford and Waterford. Our Agronomist works closely with local tillage farmers to ensure that the wheat, barley and oats that are used in our range of feeds is produced to the highest standard.
We have invested in dedicated grain storage and grain handling facilities to ensure that the grain is stored in optimum conditions.
