Celtic Sea Minerals specialises in the development, manufacture and marketing of natural animal feed, hygiene and fertiliser products based on calcareous marine algae (Lithothamnion). The calcareous marine algae is harvested under government licences from reserves off the coasts of Ireland and Iceland.
Celtic Sea Minerals harvests in two key locations: the original site off the south west coast of Ireland – which has been worked since 1991 – and a significant and plentiful new reserve in Arnarfjordur, a fiord in the north west of Iceland.
The Icelandic source contains up to 35 million tonnes of Lithothamnion, compared with only one million tonnes off the coast of Ireland. Celtic Sea Minerals harvests large quantities of the Icelandic material a year through a joint venture agreement with a local company.
