About Us
Established in 2005, Cogent Fibre* is a privately held company that produces and exports pine wood chips from the eastern coast of the United States. The principals of Cogent Fibre have 45 years of combined experience sourcing, producing, marketing and exporting wood chips. To date, Cogent Fibre has exported more than four million metric tons of pine wood chips and is proud to be the leading wood chip exporter on the eastern coast of North America.
Cogent Fibre wood chips are produced from the necessary tree thinning of private timberlands in the southeastern United States and as part of Cogent Fibre’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, are Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) procurement certified. Cogent Fibre wood chips are used in the manufacture of paper pulp, particleboard, medium density fibreboard and for the generation of clean, renewable energy in biomass fired power plants.
Cogent Fibre is the exclusive wood chip exporter from East Coast Terminals and The Port of Morehead City, two world-class wood chip loading facilities located in Savannah, GA and Morehead City, NC. Cogent Fibre’s facilities make up two of the three currently active wood chip terminals in the eastern United States, possessing 250,000 metric tons of wood chip storage capacity and ideally positioned in the heart of the abundant US South wood basket.
With two wood chip vessels under long-term charter and company owned orange-peel grabs Cogent Fibre possesses the capability and flexibility to deliver its wood chips on both a CFR and CPT** basis. Cogent Fibre’s vessels provide a unique competitive advantage, as Cogent Fibre is the only wood chip exporter in the eastern United States with wood chip vessels under long-term charter.
Cogent Principles
Being Cogent
Why did we name our company Cogent Fibre? Of course, the word fibre as in wood fibre is evident so we will just explain Cogent. Cogent, the word, is defined as: precise, convincing, relevant, and to the point. As the name of our company, it means we will always be clear and precise in our business dealings, we will be convincing in our abilities, we will remain relevant in changing markets and will always be straightforward, and to the point.
Integrity
Integrity is our core principle. It is the very fibre from which our company was built. We honour our commitments, hold ourselves and our employees to the highest ethical standards, and expect no less from our suppliers, partner companies and customers.
Professionalism
Professionalism is, in many ways, an extension of our core principle of integrity. We diligently adhere to courtesy, honesty, and responsibility in our interactions with customers, suppliers, partners and employees, which combined with a level of excellence, extends beyond the standard commercial consideration and legal obligation.
People
Our people are the engine that runs our company. We measure performance with honesty, provide coaching where necessary and encourage our people to grow both as employees and individuals.
Swiftness
We believe that our success to date has been based significantly on our ability to make timely and cogent decisions. As we grow, we believe it is of great importance that we maintain and foster this ability. We never want to lose an opportunity due to the inability to act quickly and prudently.
Partners
We choose our partners with great care. We strive to associate with like-minded organizations that espouse the same principles that we do. We view all of our suppliers, service providers and customers as partners in our business and an extension of our organization. As such, it is imperative to the harmony of our business that we share common values.
