El-Gra have been manufacturing agricultural machinery in Australia for more than 25 years, and have the enviable reputation for being one of the leaders in the field. El-Gra manufacture and sell predominately three point linkage mounted machines, but as the years have gone by there has become a demand for our equipment to be mounted to skid steers and telehandlers. The product range is wide and El-Gra is one of the largest manufacturers of this type of equipment in Australia. El-Gra use quality components usually imported from reliable European manufacturers.
Company founder, Elton Robinson, was born into a farming family in central Victoria and grew up on the family's property, 'Colbinabbin'. Rural life on a 3,000 acre sheep & cattle property taught Elton the importance farm machinery played in the everyday life of farming people.
Following a stint with the 2nd Royal Australian Regiment in Vietnam, Elton returned to the land and spent some time working in the timber industry. Once again the Farm machinery creator, Elton Robinsonopportunity to work with, and on heavy duty machinery increased Elton's range of expertise with all-things-mechanical. After adding plumbing and truck driving to his repertoire he started a backyard engineering business manufacturing trailers, shed trusses and frames.
As Elton says, 'From an early age I was always fascinated by machinery, and never missed an opportunity to pull something to pieces so I could see how it worked. Then once I began my engineering business, I was constantly trying to improve almost every piece of equipment I worked with'. Little did he know that his small backyard enterprise would develop into one of the country's leading farm machinery design and manufacturing operations.
Elton's son, Graeme, having completed his training as a mechanical engineer, joined his father in the business in 1990. While Elton manages the on-road promotions and agricultural field days, Grahame takes care of the bulk of new equipment design drafting and manufacturing operations.
Participating in more than 25 field days each year, provides Elton with the opportunity to talk to farmers and gain valuable input that helps with El-Gra's ongoing product refinement and innovation. Elton believes his extensive farming background and experience with all types of farm machinery gives El-Gra a competitive edge when it comes to creating innovative solutions for farmers worldwide. In Elton's words, 'There is nothing like getting out there and talking to farmers face-to-face to find out their problems. This valuable first-hand feedback is a critical part of El-Gra's approach to developing better farm machinery.'
With their recent expansion into the Untited States farming market, El-Gra Engineering have come a long way from their humble beginnings of a 'backyard' engineering business in an old shed on his father's property, and the future looks very bright indeed.
