About Us
EFR’s success story is based on a firm foundation:
Huge investments had been made in audio-frequency transmitter stations for traditional radio-control – and this inspired the idea of ‘alternative’ types of control. This in turn led to setting up a nationwide transmitter, which would dispense with the need for power-supply companies to use multiple transmitters for radio-control. The solution was radio-wave transmission.
In 1992 the Association of German Power Utilities (VDEW) formed a working party to carry out economic and feasibility studies on radio ripple control. The positive results of these studies led to the foundation in 1993 of EFR GmbH (Europäische Funk-Rundsteuerung = European Radio Ripple Control). The first long-wave transmitter was installed in 1995, at Mainflingen, and the central computer commenced operations; two years later, a second transmitter started up, at Burg. Long-wave control offers a nationwide solution, cost-effective and independent of individual power supply networks. Many clients have been convinced by these facts – and as a result, by 2012 one million radio receivers in Germany were controlled from the transmitters at Mainflingen and Burg.
