A.F. Gason Pty Limited, was founded in 1945 at Ararat in Western Victoria, Australia, as a one man motor trimming business.
The Founding father was Mr Frank Gason and the Company remains a family owned business today with Frank’s son, Les Gason, still occupying the position as Chairman of the board and third generation family members in key roles within the business.
From the early 1960s to the early 1980s, Gason grew to be a national market leader in Australia supplying retro-fitted cabins for major tractor manufacturers and importers including Massey Ferguson, John Deere and Ford.
As factory fitted cabins became standard equipment on imported tractors, Gason evolved into its current role as a world class designer and manufacturer of broad acre agricultural machinery and solid fuel and gas heating products.
Today Gason is a significant regional employer, has a highly skilled workforce, and are very active in training apprentices through an in-house training program in addition to other staff development programs.
The Gason Farm Machinery & Heating range is distributed through an extensive network of farm Machinery and Heating dealers throughout Australia. In addition to the Gason branded proprietary products the company offers a multitude of industrial services such as laser cutting, powder coating, welding and assembly to a broad range of industry sectors supplying customers in major capital cities and other regional areas.
The Company operates a world class engineering production facility of around 20,500 square metres (220,000 square feet) on its 3.24ha (8 acre) site.
Frank worked at the Ford Motor Company in Geelong and decided to move his family to Ararat. He had no premises, little money, no contracts – just experience and a strong will to get started. Eventually a small rented business was established known as A.F. Gason, Motor Trimmer & Body Builder. The business started with a workbench a small selection of hand tools, even small stock and a sewing machine.
Today 60 years after commencement the business has become one of Australia’s leaders in the design and manufacture of quality innovative seeding and tillage equipment. Recognizing the fluctuation in the agricultural sector Gason decided to enter new markets by diversifying its product range to include solid fuel and gas heaters.
With two fully automatic laser cutting machines now operating, sometimes 24 hours a day, Gason has great capacity to satisfy their own internal steel cutting needs, and also carry out a considerable amount of subcontract work for various companies across a wide sector.
The company operates its manufacturing operation from its 3.2 hectare site at Ararat, Victoria with 18,000 square metres of under cover floor space. Sales personnel operate throughout Australia with a sales office for machinery at Ararat and for heaters at Bayswater, Victoria.
Gason today provides back up sales and service to its approximately 400 dealer outlets throughout Australia and overseas.
