Our business was started in 1932 as the Harris Trucking Company. It was later sold and became Esparto Machine and Welding Works and specialized in truck and automobile repair. This business was purchased by the late Benjamin T. Herbst (my father) in October 1946. He began the transition into the repair and manufacture of farm equipment. In 1964 the business was incorporated under the name of Herbst Manufacturing, Inc. It has been my privilege to run the business since 1989.

During this time we have been providing agricultural equipment for a variety of crops. The diversity of products we have built and developed over the years have included; rice harvesters and related bank out wagons, stainless steel wine processing equipment and vineyard equipment.

In 1952 we built our first nut cart and in 1958 we sold our first 'Lo-Hi' model dump cart to the person who had used it during the 1957 harvest on a trial basis. In the late 1950's we developed one of the first one man operated fruit catching frames, an were among the first to participate in what are now known as Agricultural Equipment Shows.

Our business currently focuses on producing nut (almonds, pecans, walnuts, etc.) harvesting and cleaning equipment.
