Our Experience
Dates and facts
The company’s headquarter is in Augsburg (Germany), further offices are located in Moers (both Germany), Milan (Italy), Madrid (Spain) and Lyon (France). Its sister company meteocontrol North America was set up in 2010 for the North American market. About 100 employees now work at these sites. meteocontrol has been a 100% subsidiary of S.A.G. Solarstrom AG, Freiburg since 2002.
Independent consulting
The construction and operation of solar systems relies on high investments. The competence and experience of independent experts are indispensable in securing these investments and minimizing risks. As a consultant and technical service provider, meteocontrol accompanies solar projects with technologically leading solutions over the entire project lifecycle, such as reliable forecasts while incorporating all relevant parameters form the basis for sound and solid planning. An extensive range of services enables implementations and allows meteocontrol to ensure proper and planned commissioning for large scale projects. meteocontrol is a contact partner for investors, banks, insurance companies, utility companies, trade and industry.
Competence for energy and weather
meteocontrol can draw on the most modern information technology and years of experience in monitoring regenerative systems: 33,000 solar systems with a total power of over 7,5 GWp are currently monitored. In the segment of professionally monitored systems meteocontrol is a global market leader. Through constant technical development the meteocontrol’s product portfolio now offers monitoring solutions for every operation size – from private systems through to solar power plants. The recording and analysis of highly valid solarization data from satellite measurements enables precise energy forecasts for PV systems. These solar power forecasts allow energy suppliers and network operators to precisely plan their network loads and solar share of the energy mix.
Quality assurance and social responsibility
meteocontrol’s quality management system has been certified in acc. with DIN EN ISO 9001 since 2009. The system is an effective management tool for continuously and consistently optimizing the workflows in the company. At the same time the environmental management system was set up and implemented in acc. with DIN EN ISO 14001, in order to connect economic success with environmental protection and social responsibility. A team of highly qualified and motivated employees is on board to fully implement the company’s management systems and achieve the best possible work results. With specific and targeted HR development, meteocontrol supports and promotes its employees and assists them in harmonizing their work and family life. The berufundfamilie (job and family) audit of the non-profit Hertie foundation offers specific solutions for implementing a family-orientated HR policy.
Company History
meteocontrol arose out of an engineering office for solar technology established over 30 years ago. Since the reorganization in 2002 it has developed into an internationally active company with about 100 employees. With various branches in Germany and Europe and a sister company in the USA, meteocontrol is represented around the world and continues to expand in new international markets.
From Origins to Present
Established in 1976 the 'ist' engineering office for solar technology in Kandern-Wollbach (Germany) laid the foundation for our expertise in research, planning and consultancy in the solar technology sector. The surveying of 50 solar heated swimming pools in Europe was one of the company’skey aspects of activity between 1980 and 1985. During this time the engineers of the recently established ist EnergieTechnik GmbH developed the first software programs for solar systems. The research work in the PV area intensified with the opening of the Augsburg office. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research the company’s engineers developed the first remote measurement network for measuring PV systems as part of the “1,000 roofs program”. The results of the measurement formed the basis of the henceforward leading remote monitoring system, safer’Sun.
With the foundation of ist EnergieCom GmbH in 1998 the focus continued to shift towards monitoring and visualizing solar power systems. The implementation of the German Renewable Energies Law in 2000 boosted the development of cost-effective monitoring concepts and services for ensuring the highest possible yields and the lowest possible downtimes. The changeover to meteocontrol GmbH as an S.A.G. Solarstrom AG and meteomedia AG joint venture enabled the use of exclusive weather data for developing energy and weather services, which cover all phases of a PV project – from yield reports and technical project evaluation through to operational management and yield analyses of solar systems.
With this comprehensive product and service portfolio meteocontrol advises and supports national and international large-scale projects with total investment amounts that are now well in excess of eight billion euros.
