About us
For generations, America’s strength has emerged from the power of its manufacturing factories. Today, NIBCO INC. is a premier example of an American success story with its U.S.-based manufacturing and all-American ownership.
In 1904 Casper Schweitzer, founded Northern Indiana Brass Foundry Works in Elkhart, Ind. with $1,200 cash. Originally, the company made brass keys for musical instruments and bronze castings for balancing scale weights. By 1922, under the foresight of Ross Martin, Schweitzer’s son-in-law, NIBCO entered the new indoor plumbing market with its copper plumbing products.
When Lee Martin, Ross’ son, took the reins of the company in 1957, he continually worked to improve manufacturing processes and efficiencies. A true visionary, he strived to always launch new products that provided a higher value to customers in the form of better design, better materials or better manufacturing process.
Over the years, NIBCO has survived and thrived during the toughest economic times – a testament to exceptional product quality and adherence to its core values: safety, integrity, teamwork, continuous improvement, and philanthropy
Rex Martin continues the family leadership as Chairman of the Board. Under Rex Martin’s leadership, several important milestones led to the company’s growth. Martin led the acquisitions of Sure Seal, Webstone, and Milwaukee Valve.
Alice Martin, Rex’s late wife and past Vice Chairman and Chief Revenue Officer, also added her impact to the company, most notably from the perspective of corporate culture. She instituted several initiatives to develop and acknowledge associates and promote wellness, all while reshaping the culture and without losing sight of the importance of being customer focused. Alice founded the NIBCO Women’s Group in 2010 to help develop and promote women leaders. Alice was recognized numerous times for her leadership and philanthropy work and the company officially made philanthropy its fifth core value in 2018 as it has been an integral part of NIBCO for many years.
Today, the company is a worldwide manufacturer of flow control system solutions for residential, commercial, industrial, marine, and irrigation markets.?With a manufacturing history spanning over a century, NIBCO is positioned for continued growth under its fifth generation of family leadership and employee ownership. Recently, Ashley Martin, Rex Martin’s daughter, was named Executive Vice President. She co-founded the American Supply Association’s Women in Industry and continues to support diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.
As the company enters its fifth generation of leadership, here's a look at key leadership accomplishments.
