North East Grains Limited
When North East Grains Ltd was launched 23 years ago in 1987 it opened with a 10,000 tonnes capacity store and twenty local growers. Since this time it has evolved and developed and today 23 years later North East Grains Storage Ltd is one of the largest farmer owned grain co-operatives in the North of England. We can now process in the region of 50,000 tonnes of grain. North East Grains Ltd is a grain storage and marketing business. We encourage members to grow `added value` malting barley, which can be significantly more profitable than feed barley and wheat. In addition to grain drying, storage and marketing we handle, condition, process and store grain for our farmer members. We are a progressive company offering our members the very high levels of customer care, service and training.

In July 2010 we opened a new £2 million development which included a new 20,000 tonne capacity grain store, complete with a new 100 tonne per hour dryer and cleaning plant.
This new store has vastly improved our productivity and is one of the most sophisticated grain stores in the UK. Both quality and value is optimised we have a highly efficient segregation of grain. As a result of our increased capacity North East Grains has reached a long term agreement with Simpsons Malt Ltd to supply them with its members Malting Barley and to dry and store it on their behalf.
Increasingly the food industry wishes to buy from modern co-operatives because they demand exacting standards and can ensure continuity of supply.
This expansion means that individual farmers do not have to install sophisticated drying and storage equipment on their farms. They are also assured that if there is another wet harvest like 2008; their grain will be dried as quickly as possible. Now that we can ensure that crops will be stored correctly with an assured market for the grain, we know we can grow and develop our business by 50% and invite more farmers to invest in the North East Grains co-operative.
