InnovaSea Systems, Inc. is an innovative, technology and engineering based company, dedicated to supporting the open-ocean aquaculture industry. InnovaSea was launched January 1, 2015 with the merger of two advanced aquaculture engineering and technology companies; OceanSpar and Ocean Farm Technologies.
InnovaSea Systems’ Origin
The foundation of InnovaSea’s aquaculture technology and engineering solutions and services began in 1978 with Nor‘Eastern Trawl Systems, known as NET Systems, Inc. and later, in 2005 with the founding of Ocean Farms Technologies, an aquaculture engineering and solutions company servicing the open ocean fish farming industry.
In its early years, NET Systems provided complete trawl fishing systems for its customers. By the early 1980’s NET Systems became a leader in the design and production of trawl nets, trawl doors, codends as well as manufacturers of products for the open ocean aquaculture industry. In the late 1980’s, NET Systems launched a new division of its company called OceanSpar. The OceanSpar division specialized in the development of innovative open ocean aquaculture products and services. OceanSpar was spun off from NET Systems as a separate company in 1994.
From 1994 to late 2014, OceanSpar designed large submersible net pens and provided technical support equipment for the open ocean aquaculture industry. The company’s approach – delivering solutions that integrate fish pen systems with feeding, harvesting and other operational equipment – led to the development of the SeaStation™, an open ocean fish pen system, and to AquaSpar™, the company’s unique line of near-shore and freshwater fish pens. OceanSpar’s design and engineering experience helped to further growth and innovation in the aquaculture industry.
Ocean Farm Technologies
By 2005, Ocean Farm Technologies was founded. The company was quickly recognized as a leader in advanced aquaculture technology, innovation and development. Ocean Farm Technologies’ Aquapod,™ a premier product, is a unique containment system for marine aquaculture, suited for open ocean conditions and for growth of diverse fish species. The Aquapod is comprised of individual triangular net panels fastened together in a spheroid shape and is used by leading environmentally-focused open ocean aquaculture companies around the world. Ocean Farm technologies provided ongoing support for the open ocean industry through a variety of integrated aquaculture services. In 2012, Ocean Farm Technologies merged with Earth Ocean Farms, a marine fish farming company located in the Sea of Cortez near La Paz, Baja California, Mexico. The two companies became part of Baja Aquaculture Inc., a management firm dedicated to the development, building and marketing of innovative and integrated farming systems for marine fish worldwide.
InnovaSea Systems, Inc. founded January 1, 2015 with the merger of OceanSpar and Ocean Farm Technologies is part of the Cuna del Mar group. The company is committed to developing the next wave of innovative, open-ocean products and services to support the growing mariculture industry. InnovaSea has a research and development focus and is actively expanding its workforce of highly skilled engineers, software systems developers, and experience project managers.
