- Military Covers
Most conventional canvas and vinyl covers retain moisture that increases the relative humidity and potential for corrosion. The best way to completely seal out corrosion is to control the environment around the piece of equipment using barrier bags creating a hermetic seal. Other anti-corrosion cover technologies are very expensive and difficult to install. Protective Packaging provides lightweight, easy to install, protective covers that are tailored to the consumer needs that can be delivered at a much lower cost.
Corrosion Prevention
Our corrosion prevention, protection, and control solutions combine desiccants, barrier materials, VCI emitters and other rust prohibiting components. We specialize in corrosion protection during shipping and storage.
Shrink Wrap Packaging
Shrink Wrap Film Packaging
Our shrink wraps are polyethylene films capable of covering even the largest or most irregularly shaped objects. This tight film creates a protective shell that keeps contents in a dry, controlled environment. Far more effective than tarps, this simple procedure provides excellent protection for crating or transportation.
VCI Films & VCI Bags
Our VCI films are made from high-tech resins, utilizing cutting edge extrusion technology. The corrosion inhibitors are extruded right into the polyethylene film. As a result, the volatile and contact inhibitors provide long-term corrosion protection for the most intricate and hard-to-reach surfaces. The corrosion protection is clean, non-discernible, with no strong chemical odor.

– Type II. When tested as specified, type II desiccant shall produce not more than 1/2 milligram of dust, regardless of bag size.
Corrosiveness – The bagged desiccant and the desiccant by itself in contact with steel, brass, magnesium, and aluminum shall show no increase in corrosion when tested.
Bag durability
– Types I, II and III. Bags in which the desiccant is packaged shall not puncture, tear or burst, and the tie strings shall not break when tested.
– Type III only. Bags in which the desiccant is packaged shall not puncture, tear or burst nor show visible evidence of leaching of the desiccant through the bag materiel when tested as specified. The test water used for immersion shall contain not more than 5 milligrams of non-combustible material per 8 units of desiccant when tested.
Resistance of bagging material to reactivation temperature – When reactivated and tested as specified, the desiccant beg shall not puncture, burst, or othervise fail.

Humidity Indicator
Humidity and moisture are invisible yet destructive elements that can contribute to the rapid deterioration of many products. To avoid their damaging effects, companies usually turn to packaging experts who can supply them with the necessary moisture barriers to protect their goods. At Protective Packaging Corporation, we have spent the last 25 years providing major companies, the American government and military with the latest and most effective packaging products on the market.
Although moisture barrier bags or vapor barrier bags have very specific quality ratings, it is often difficult to judge the actual levels of humidity within. At Protective Packaging Corporation we only use top-of-the-line materials. Our moisture barrier bags have an MVTR rating of 0.02. This means that only 0.02 grams of moisture can ever seep in within a 24-hour period in 95 percent humidity. Coupled with the use of desiccants, that number falls even lower.
With that being said, how does one know if a desiccant is working? How can one tell if it needs replacing? One simple way is the use of a humidity indicator card. Humidity indicators confirm that your protective packaging has done its job. These small humidity indicator cards are placed within the moisture barrier bag and can either be checked upon arrival of a shipment or at regular intervals during storage. By using a simple color-coded system, these cards indicate humidity levels, showing how well the barrier bag and desiccants are working.
At Protective Packaging Corporation, we focus on providing our customers with every available option to keep their products safe. From moisture barrier bags to desiccants and humidity indicator cards, we offer a wide range of high quality products. No matter your packaging needs, our experts are dedicated to finding the optimum solution.

Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate – MVTR
What is “MVTR”?
MVTR stands for “Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate“, a measure of the passage of gaseous H2O through a barrier. It’s also known as “WVTR“, or “Water Vapor Transmission Rate“.
Most flexible packaging is intended to preserve contents and protect it from the damaging effects of moisture. The amount of protection is indicated in part by the material’s MVTR, which is typically expressed as g/100 in2 /24 hrs. Currently, the best barrier materials on the market today have an MVTR of <.02 g/100 in2 /24 hrs.
How is moisture resistance measured?
Two main testing methods measure MVTR, ASTM E96 and ASTM F1249.
One variation of ASTM E96 uses a special chamber to measure moisture resistance. The chamber is divided vertically by the substrate/barrier material. A dry atmosphere is in one chamber, and a moist atmosphere is in the other. A 24-hour test is run to see how much moisture passes through the substrate/barrier from the “wet” chamber to the “dry” chamber. ASTM E96 can specify any one of five combinations of temperature and humidity in the “wet” chamber. The toughest conditions are 100°F / 95%RH (Relative Humidity). This method can be time consuming and pressure changes may impact the actual results.
ASTM F1249 is an MVTR measurement method that uses infrared (IR) detectors to measure changes in RH on the dry side of a film in a chamber similar to the one used in the ASTM E96 method. Water is placed in the bottom to create a 100% RH atmosphere. Barrier material is used to divide the bottom and top. The top side of the chamber is ventilated with dry air and change in RH is measured with an IR detector. One disadvantage of this method is that the RH is limited to 100% unless special equipment is used that allows for control over RH.
