We are the parent to a family of businesses focused on bringing insight and value to the agricultural equipment industry. Our purpose is to strategically invest in high performance manufacturing businesses. The S3 group promotes the values of joy, character, honour and integrity as a way of doing business. That means we intentionally work on developing character; it means that we honour God by being grateful and diligent; it means we prize integrity above gain. We see joy as something we have in spite of our circumstances – not because of them, and for joy to be a part of who we are, we must stay true to these values.
The S3 group of companies put down roots in the farm equipment industry in 1966 as Rem Manufacturing Ltd. The founders quickly discovered opportunity to provide customized components for other manufacturers in addition to designing and taking to market proprietary products.
The challenges inherent to working with customers from the retail level through to original equipment manufacturers cultivated a unique perspective within the company. Focus groups emerged from this perspective, and these groups have now become specialized teams within the S3 family.
S3 teams enjoy working hard in fast-paced environments. We continuously grow our knowledge and seek insight that brings value to each other and to our business associates. Corporately, the S3 groups bring a wealth of experience specific to both manufacturing and to agricultural applications. Our corporate culture stems from our prairie roots and simple faith. 1960s: On January 1, 1966, Frank & Helen Rempel launched Rem Enterprises with 4 employees and a few great product designs. Rem’s first decade saw steady growth that began in the domestic market and expanded to include US exports in 1967.
From a modest facility of 1600 sq.ft. in 1969, came a variety of products that challenged conventional thinking and standards at the time. Dump Wagons, Chaff Blowers, Feed Blowers, Self-unloading Forage Wagons and an all new blower design integration, catapulted many of these products to success and paved the way for a bright future.
1970s: Having gained a great deal of industry experience and success throughout the sixties, Rem entered the seventies with great enthusiasm and even more innovative product offerings.
The same core products continued to carry Rem into further development and growth. The construction of a specialty furnace allowed for the addition of wire torsion springs to the product line up and opened the doors to a bright future in wire forming. Design and engineering began for Plot Seeder Units which became an important product offering for research facilities through the global agricultural market.
1980s: With 20 years of industry experience and over 90 employees, the operation expanded into a 32,000 sq.ft facility. This new facility afforded the space for the introduction of new equipment that increased production and development capabilities. Large-scale manufacturing began on compression and extension springs, aeration fans and the industry-changing Rem Grain Vacuum.
With new capabilities and proven designs Rem became an industry leader in manufacturing after-market teeth and tynes. Rem introduced the Delta Flexible Harrow product line and began offering contract manufacturing services that included grain storage bins, inline and centrifugal blowers and harrow systems.
1990s: By 1990, Rem’s strong presence in the US market had grown to include warehousing facilities in Fargo ND and to support an increasing demand for it’s offerings, Rem once again expanded it’s Canadian facilities. An additional 50,000 sq.ft. production facility was brought online. New products included Pneumatic Chaff Spreaders, and Grain Transfer Systems.
By the end of the 90’s, Rem Enterprises operations were approaching 100,000 sq.ft. and were operating under ISO9001:1994 certification standards.
2000s: Between 2000 and 2010, many strategic changes occurred in operations. Rem had restructured to include both Rem and Pel Industries. The success of the Delta Harrow product in the US market, led to the purchase of a production facility for this product in Shenandoah, Iowa in 2006. Throughout this period, the BaleMax bale shredding product was introduced as well as a new drive-over gate system.
2010s: 2010 marked the beginning of an era of very progressive change for Rem Enterprises. Rem has always been a family-oriented company, and in this tradition, 2012 marked the first generational succession of the company to new ownership. The GrainVac product lineup was sold and Rem was re-branded and restructured into a family of five companies under the corporate identity of S3 Enterprises: S3 Delta Harrows, S3 Wireworm, S3 Air Systems and S3 Manufacturing.
