MacroRhizons are developed for field research. They have a porous part with an outer diameter of 4.5 mm and a pore size of 0.15 µm. MacroRhizons are only available with female luer lock, suitable for creating a vacuum with syringes. The yield of water is approximately 20 ml/minute.
The standard Rhizon models have a diameter of 2.5 mm and a mean pore size of 0.15 µm. They can be used for sampling pore water in pots, vessels or cylinders filled with settled soil, or directly in undisturbed cores. The Rhizons are available with a 5 or 10 cm porous part. Using Rhizons with a 10 cm porous part, the yield of water is approximately 4 ml/minute.
MicroRhizons are mainly used in RhizonBox and agar tests. They consist of two parts: a porous part of 8 mm with an outer diameter of 1 mm, and PEEK tubing with a connector fit to a syringe. The yield of MicroRhizons is up to 2 ml. As the tubing of MicroRhizons consists of PEEK and a special glue, it is possible to steamsterilize them.
Rhizon Irrigators can be used for the passive irrigation in small pots or RhizonBoxes during growth experiments. Instead of irrigation with nutrified water, also experiments with polluted solutions can be done. The top end (blue female luer + stopcock) of the Rhizon Irrigator has to be used to flush regularly, in order to remove air bubbles which occur due to the subatmospheric pressure in the system.
