In 1958, Stan Bonham laid the foundation for RMT Equipment when he began whole-selling tractor dynamometers for M&W gear to tractor dealers in Utah , Idaho , Wyoming and Nevada . Stan sold the first aftermarket M&W turbo kit for tractors in the state of Idaho . At the time, the idea of a turbo-charged diesel engines was revolutionary; today turbo-charged tractors are the mainstay of agriculture.
Stan quickly gained a reputation of integrity and hard work and grew the business by adding multiple lines to further offer solutions for his customers.
In 1974, Stan's son Brent Bonham, joined the company and eventually bought it from him in 1984. In the early 80's the company underwent a major change from a wholesaler to a full-service dealership when it made the decision to get into the golf and turf market by taking the Jacobsen product line from the Boyd Martin Company. For the next 16 years, most of the company's resources were focused on building this new and exciting market. Investments were made in personnel, training, equipment and buildings to support the parts, service and sales departments. A new era began as RMT began dealing with a new customer, the end user.
One of the challenges that eventually faced RMT in the golf and turf markets for the intermountain area was the fact that it was so spread out, thus leaving customers far from service and support. In early 2000, Brandon Bonham joined the RMT team and became the 3 rd generation of family ownership. Shortly after his arrival, plans were made to expand and support RMT customers. The answer was to open more full-service locations in strategic areas, the problem RMT faced was that golf and turf business alone could not support the overhead of branch locations.
In 2001, dialogue began with New Holland Construction and New Holland Agriculture to partner in the Utah markets by opening full-service locations in St. George, Ogden and Springville in addition to a new retail center in Salt Lake . New Holland became a wonderful business partner. Aggressive programs have been put into to place to capture the municipal, construction, landscape, and agricultural markets. Municipal flip out programs have created great deals for RMT's private buyers by allowing them to purchase 1 year old backhoes and skid-steers at significant savings! The addition of these full-service locations has brought a renewed presence for New Holland and a much higher level of support and service for current golf and turf customers.
In 2004 RMT added a full service location in Boise Idaho . In 2006 RMT took over the Oregon and Southern Washington markets for Jacobsen by adding locations in Bend and Portland , Oregon . The addition of the Oregon and Southern Washington markets has created a lot of synergy in the RMT organization for the golf and turf professional. All six locations now share common inventories in parts and equipment along with years of professional experience!
