We, the Taylors at Green Smithy, Bentham believe in keeping things in the family. Robert Taylor & Sons was established in 1859, when a blacksmith's shop was erected at a busy crossroads one mile from the small market town of Bentham. Green Smithy was named after Richard Green, a wealthy farmer on whose land the smithy was originally built.

The company continued as farriers and general metal workers through three generations, slowly expanding (1. Robert Taylor 2. Almer & Thomas 3. Robert). The fourth generation of Dennis, Bryan & Frank was when the word 'horsepower' took on a whole new meaning with the introduction of the tractor. Robert Taylor & Sons became David Brown Albion agents in 1959, and David Brown tractor dealers in 1960.

The fifth generation of the Taylor family still working in the business - Ian, Barry & David - saw the David Brown tractor side really develop, and in 1964 the erection of a workshop and tractor machinery parts department on the other side of the crossroads expanding to meet market demands.

Robert Taylor & Sons and David Brown Tractors worked well together, developing and forming the success the company is today. David Brown has now been replaced by Case IH as our major franchise through a sense of development and in order to remain at the forefront of farming technology.

Having sold ATVs since around 1984, the most recent expansion includes a new Honda ATV workshop and renovation of part of the old smithy to form an attractive new Honda ATV showroom.

1992 saw the first of the sixth generation, Paul Taylor, to work for the company. We are proud of our history and take great pride in having worked on the same site since 1859. We remain committed to selling the best products and providing a full after sales service, supported by long serving experienced staff with valued product knowledge.
