Located in Lynden, Washington, the hub of the agriculture community in Whatcom County, Scholten’s Equipment is one of four major agriculture equipment dealers in an estimated 20 million dollar total local market. Scholtens also has a substantial market built up in the rest of Washington, Oregon and British Columbia, Canada. Started by Duane and Arlene Scholten in 1980 with a single employee, Scholten’s began buying and selling used equipment out of the Midwest, the Company was incorporated in 1984. Scholten’s Equipment is an authorized dealer of Kubota, Claas, JCB, Agco Hesston, Kinze, Hanson, Watermaster, Hoelscher, Westendorf, Roto-Mix, Patz, Haybuster, and Botec.
Scholten’s Equipment has been very aggressive and successful in pioneering relatively unknown ideas and new lines such as self-propelled forage harvesters, Kemper heads, Roto-Mix, Botec, Kinze, Haybuster, Ty-Crop and JCB. Duane Scholten has cultivated many connections to the Midwest over the years. These connections have allowed Scholten’s to become a leader In order buying late model John Deere equipment from the Midwest, and transporting it to the west coast.
Duane Scholten is a “hands on” owner, keeping close contact with all employees. Duanes “hands on” approach has also led him to become personally acquainted with almost every customer. Still a young and aggressive company, Scholten’s Equipment has come a long way in 27 years and is still growing.
In 1994, Scholten’s Equipment became employee owned, as five long time employees invested into the company, to help stimulate employee involvement. Duane has always sought to create a work environment where hard work and positive attitude are handsomely rewarded.
Today, Scholten’s Equipment is headquartered on an 11 acre facility with a 14,000 square foot shop and showroom. Scholten’s Equipment employs 35 people. A second store in Burlington Washington was opened in 1994. Scholten’s success can be attributed to low employee turnover, very dedicated personnel, and close attention to customer needs.
