About Us
Our history
In 1912 the cooper Georg Speidel founded a business for the production of barrels. At the beginning, only wooden barrels for beer, wine and must were produced and sold regionally.
In 1930 his son Gottlob Speidel started running the business, still producing wooden barrels for beer, wine and must. Due to their high quality, the barrels were sold in an ever growing area.
In 1950 the destiny of the company was laid in the hands of Hans-Georg Speidel. In addition to the production of wooden barrels, in 1963 a GRP production (glass-fibre reinforced plastic) was added.
Until 2004 GRP was used to produce multi-use barrels for agriculture, containers for wine and other beverages as well as for silos for bulk good. At the end of the 1970s Speidel designed and developed its rain water barrel.
In the 1980s the demand for wooden barrels decreased drastically and barrique barrels did not yet play an important role. Therefore, the production of wooden barrels was stopped. Instead, stainless steal became increasingly important. More and more stainless steel beverage containers were produced and Speidel invested successfully in the development of new production methods. In the meantime Speidel was one of the leading businesses in the production of stainless steal containers for agriculture.
Already in 1996 Speidel also produced PE-containers in the so-called rotation method. These containers can be used as rainwater collectors, as barrels for must, but also as supply products for the industry, like for example as brine containers for grit lorries.
The company has been run by the Speidel family for already four generations. Hans-Georg Speidel, the grand child of the company founder, led the enterprise from the production of wooden barrels to the production of glass-fibre reinforced plastic barrels (GRP) and later also introduced the production of stainless steal and PE containers.
Stefan and Fabian Speidel, the two sons of Georg Speidel, after finishing their studies as industrial engineer and mechanical engineer, joined the company. Today, together with Georg Speidel, both are co-directors of the company. Stefan Speidel is responsible for PE products, Fabian Speidel for stainless steal products. And the fifth Speidel generation is aleady waiting for its call.
Quality made in Germany
Speidel’s proverbial quality
Because of their outstanding quality and reliability Speidel containers have been acquired for more than a century.
Every day we from Speidel give our best and work hard for this legacy to remain unaltered. We only use certified first-class stainless steel and even the invisible parts of our products are top-quality. To us, elaborate construction and perfect workmanship are a self-evident thing. Our weld seams are as legendary as is the fitting accuracy of our manhole doors. And you won't find thicker walls than in our underground tanks.
Who buys a stainless steel container is a professional, no freshman. One of the key requirements of containers in general is their longevity. After all, they need to be used for years to come. This is why we from Speidel pay so much attention to our products facilitating day-to-day operations and to guaranteeing permanent satisfaction. Just treat the containers the right way and they will be companions for life helping you to save both money and time.
Made in Germany for real
With Speidel products you get what is you pay for. For us, 'Made in Germany' is not just an empty phrase, but a lived principle. This is also reflected in our purchasing strategy and company policy. That is why there are no problems with suppliers for our products even in difficult times, because they are mainly from Germany. We attach great importance to quality and that is exactly why we do not manufacture abroad at cheap prices.
In short: genuinely Made in Germany.
Swabian workmanship
We manufacture our products exclusively in our main factory in Ofterdingen, Swabia/Germany. This not only secures jobs, but also quality. An essential guarantor of this quality are our well-trained employees.
In two plants all work steps are carried out so that our customers receive the best containers: Plant 1 is responsible for the production of PE and VA as well as development, administration, customer service and logistics. Plant 2 houses the large container production.
Certificates
We are certified according to the guidelines for pressure equipment 2014/68/EU:
- DIN EN ISO 3834-2 quality requirements for fusion welding of metal material
- AD 2000 HP0 quaity requirements according AD bulletins
The certification with the name “Regulation for food articles of daily use EU 1935/2004” is obligatory in the food sector; and Speidel’s internal quality controls take the regulation’s implications more than seriously!
Sustainability
Conscious production and environmental protection
Responsibility
Sustainability and environmental compatibility have always been a natural part of our mission and responsibility towards our customers and the environment. This is evident in the tanks we manufacture, in the production process and in our handling of resources.
Handling resources
We cover 25% of our electricity needs from our own generation. With our photovoltaic system, we produce a total of 670,000 kWh of electricity and thus avoid approx. 270 tons of CO2 annually.
That not only sounds like a lot, but it is. In the region, this makes us a pioneer and a good role model. After all, environmental protection concerns us all – with moderation, purpose and understanding.
The remaining part of our electricity requirements that we do not generate ourselves comes from renewable energy sources and is 100% CO2-free green electricity. So there are no CO2 emissions for the production of a Speidel tank.
Of course, we use rainwater e.g. for container cleaning as well as our toilet flushing and keep pallets in the round for multiple and reuse. The sum of these features and measures is unique in container production.
Durability
We do everything we can to make our tanks as durable as possible. Because what lasts a long time doesn't need to be replaced, and that saves raw materials and energy. And that in turn protects the environment.
That's why we source most of our primary material from Germany. This means reliable sources of supply and short delivery routes with the best quality. The quality of the raw material and the excellent workmanship show our attitude not to produce disposable products. Thus, we guarantee our customers lifelong enjoyment of our products if they are used properly.
