Standen Hey Overbridge
Tony Gee was responsible for the bridge deck design for the UK’s first vehicle carrying Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) bridge deck to span over a railway, replacing the existing over-line bridge at Standen Hey, Lancashire. The deck design is likely to act as a template for future railway over-bridge deck replacements in the future. The completed bridge deck comprises up to three layers of ASSET panel deck units and weighs only 20 tonnes. It spans ...

Deal Pier Refurbishment
Deal Pier was constructed in the 1950s and comprises concrete encased castellated steel beams supporting a reinforced concrete deck. The piled foundations are of steel tube encased in concrete. Significant deterioration had occurred as a result of the maritime environment therefore a phased improvement programme was established to fully restore Deal Pier to ensure that the future of the Pier was safeguarded. Tony Gee was employed to assess and report ...

St David’s 2
Tony Gee was commissioned to undertake the design of a sheet pile retaining wall for Cardiff St David’s 2, a shopping centre development with a two-storey basement. The design work for the temporary and permanent conditions included temporary tie bars, ground anchors, temporary waling beams and props. One unusual aspect was that the piles were designed to support vertical loads from the edge columns of the building above in addition to the ...

A20 Roundhill Viaducts
An alternative design of two viaducts built using the glued segmental balanced cantilever system. Individual viaduct lengths of 340.2 m and 384.08 m are made up of spans typically of 60 and 63 m. The viaducts form part of the road improvements for the A20 Folkestone to Dover route. A complete redesign of the supporting columns and foundation was also undertaken, taking into consideration the Channel Tunnel which crosses the site within 1 m of finished ...

Coulsdon Town Centre Improvement Scheme
Tony Gee carried out the design of all temporary works associated with the box installation, as well as independent checks on other temporary works. The A23 carriageway is designed to pass under the Tattenham Corner Branch Line at Smitham Station. It was vital that the station and the railway remained operational throughout construction, so an engineering solution was required that avoided closures. The box was constructed offline and jacked into ...
