Vet Aqua International
Vet-Aqua International is a private, independent veterinary practice established in 2000 which is dedicated to aquatic animals and works in the aquaculture, public aquaria and wild fishery sectors. VAI is based in the West of Ireland but has clients throughout Ireland, the UK and also undertakes consultancy for clients in the USA, Spain, Norway and Australia. We work with all aquatic animal species but particularly with salmon, trout, perch, turbot, tilapia, cod, char and ornamentals. VAI is a Veterinary Council of Ireland registered practice (no. 3384) and can undertake contract research, consultancy and advisory work on all aspects of fish health.
Current research focus areas include gill disease in marine salmonids (special focus on amoebic gill disease andNeoparamoeba perurans supported by Bord Iascaigh Mhara), development of scientifically proven measures for the management and mitigation of infectious diseases in finfish aquaculture in Ireland, and investigations of microsporidea in finfish and the role of biofouling and net cleaning in gill disease.
