The Slezak family relationship with John Deere Company began in 1938 when Fred J. Slezak started a dealership in the basement of a chicken coop in New Alexandria, Pennsylvania. He ran the dealership at that location on Lone Maple Farm until his retirement in 1960. His son Frederick A. Slezak became interested in a dealership again in 1976 and formed Lone Maple Sales & Service, Inc. which signed its first contract with John Deere in 1977 and opened at the current New Alexandria store location in 1978. Frederick’s son, David helped to open the location and worked at the dealership in the summers while attending Penn State University. After graduation, David started full time at the dealership in 1980 and managed Lone Maple Sales & Service, Inc.

About Our Company

Joel Wineland, General Manager

In 1945 Joel Wineland’s father, Galen, started Wineland Equipment. As Joel grew up, he was around the business all his life, working there over the summers while attending high school and college. After college he worked construction for one year, then his father asked Joel to join him at the John Deere dealership as a salesman full time. In 1976 Galen passed away, and Joel took over managing the business. In 1989, Joel welcomed two partners into the business.

Then, in the fall of 2007, Joel Wineland and another partner, Rodney Metzler, merged with David Slezak and Lone Maple Sales & Service to form West Central Equipment, LLC. In 2010, Scheffel Equipment of Somerset and Johnstown, another family owned business, joined West Central Equipment through acquisition to form a group of four West Central locations. And finally, in November 2013, West Central Equipment acquired the Butler, Pennsylvania, John Deere dealership from Maple Mountain Equipment, completing the current company group of five West Central locations which serve 19 counties in Pennsylvania, northern Maryland and West Virginia.
