What is Agribusiness?
AgriBusiness Congress East Africa is a two-day interactive forum and exhibition that brings together key public & private stakeholders, from across the East African agricultural sector to discuss strategic and practical solutions to the challenges faced.
Through discussions and knowledge sharing, the vision is to find ways to address those pertinent issues which are preventing the East African agricultural industry from truly flourishing. Bringing together key public and private stakeholders from across the African agricultural sector, Agribusiness Congress promotes collaboration and drives innovation to develop East African agriculture.
The 2015 event saw over 200 delegates, 43 exhibitors, more than 550 visitors and 20 countries represented. Following on from the successful launch of a Hosted Farmer Campaign in 2014, 50 emerging farmers were sponsored to attend Agribusiness Congress as complimentary delegates at the event.
We encourage investors, the donor community, input suppliers, government, farmers of all scale and all professionals involved in the agricultural value chain to use this opportunity to join us and be part of the evolution of East African agriculture.
The Exhibition
Agribusiness Congress East Africa is a Business-to-Business and Business-to-Government conference and exhibition. It focuses on bringing all key decision makers, industry stakeholders and king buyers together; to meet with industry suppliers, vendor companies and farmers of all scales. This high profile, business match-making event is exclusive to individuals involved in the agri value chain, and is not open to the general public.

The Conference
The Agribusiness Congress East Africa will analyse critical strategic and practical issues, including actualising development and growth in agriculture, turning farming into a profitable business and decreasing post-harvest losses amidst the challenges posed by climate change.
In Africa, agriculture accounts for two-thirds of livelihoods and food accounts for two-thirds of poor household budgets. Sustaining growth, reducing poverty and making progress in other areas of human development depend critically on increasing agricultural productivity. If these challenges are not overcome, rising prices will undermine food security, hold back urbanization and inflate wage costs, with damaging prospects for investment, employment and Africa’s competitive position in the global economy.
The Congress will address these key topics:
1. Farming as a business and the future of farmers in Africa
2. Farming finance and future prospects to develop the business of agriculture
- Enablers of success: skill, finance, market
- Entrepreneurial mind-set development
- Knowledge brokerage and the attitudes of farmers
- Input productivity for commercial viability
3. Constraints and opportunities: rural financing, small scale and emerging farmer sector growth areas, best practice across borders.
4. Investment: Successful partnership models to attract investors to the East African Agricultural Corridor
- Exploring the role of Public and Private Partnerships in a successful economy
- The effect of private investment to increase efficiencies and enhance productivity in the agri-value chain with a focus on agro-processing
- Understanding the role of co-operatives and the link between farmers and producers
5. Expanding rural and agricultural markets amidst climate change
- Raising agricultural productivity and development of rural infrastructure, including crop storage, agro-processing and transport
- An emphasis on irrigation - how to shift away from the dependence on rain-fed agriculture
- Mitigating post-harvest losses
- Responsible and sustainable farming, production and consumption throughout the value chain
- Livestock trade and marketing development: a commercial, efficient and internationally competitive industry
6. Promotion of livestock production and productivity to match supply and demand
- Encouraging the development of a commercially oriented, efficient and internationally competitive livestock industry
- Promoting investment in the drylands of East Africa
- Increasing smallholder livestock enterprises through production diversification
