First Annual Groundwater Sustainability Agency Summit 2018
GRA is pleased to announce the first annual Groundwater Sustainability Agency Summit, located in Sacramento. GRA is sponsoring this new GSA Summit to provide an annual forum for groundwater sustainability discussions and updates, challenges and potential approaches to solutions to meet SGMA requirements. The Summit program is designed for GSA Boards, management, staff, and advisory committees to network, and to hear and participate in dialogues on political, legal, institutional, technical and economic topics.

Event Details
The critically overdrafted basins must submit groundwater sustainability plans (GSPs) by January 31, 2020. Two key areas of focus for the GSA Summit will be (1) developing GSPs and (2) funding the GSAs. Among other topics, the following will be discussed:
- Current challenges for GSA administration and management
- Developing legal issues related to SGMA and the new GSAs
- Progress on funding GSAs – the latest on Prop 218, 26 and other funding options
- Stakeholder involvement under SGMA – considering the interests of beneficial uses and users of groundwater
- Sustainable management criteria, thresholds and milestones
- Determining monitoring data adequacy and gaps – scale and resolution
- Data management systems, SGMA reporting, and data transparency
- Due diligence on managed aquifer recharge and imports: how much can you really do?
- Reducing water use in overdrafted basins: land-use planning, economically viable / smart footprint for irrigated agriculture, and groundwater management under SGMA
