On 11 April 2014, the United States ambassador to Germany, John B. Emerson, visited the IHK Schwaben (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) in Augsburg. The chairman of the management board at AGCO/Fendt, Peter-Josef Paffen, was also invited.

'As the representative for Bavarian companies, we had the opportunity to elucidate the economic significance of the Allgäu during the meeting,” says Peter-Josef Paffen, describing the meeting with the representatives of the US government. “AGCO/Fendt is a very positive example of a win-win relationship between a German subsidiary and an American parent company. Fendt is completely integrated in the global AGCO corporate strategy and has developed magnificently. The internationally aligned AGCO Sales, in particular, has enabled faster, more sustainable market access beyond the domestic German market. In return, Fendt provides world-wide leading tractor engineering,” says Peter-Josef Paffen, explaining the significance of the traditional tractor manufacturer from the Allgäu region. The parent company AGCO is headquartered in Duluth, Georgia.

“This first meeting will surely be a great foundation for our continued dialogue in the area of foreign economics,” says Peter Saalfrank, General Manager of the IHK Schwaben. “In the upcoming months, we will strengthen the ties to our neighbours here and delve further into this topic, focussing on the requirements of our regional policy.”

Topics of discussion included the negotiations for the trade and investment agreement between the EU and the USA. It aims, for example, to reduce trade restrictions and import duties. Moreover, joint coordination and recognition of codes, standards and certifications is planned.
