Phoenix, AZ, February 9th, 2012 -- On August 29th, 2010, Kyle Gracin Lewis passed away due to Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM). It was caused by a waterborne amoeba known as Naegleria fowleri. Up until his infection, Kyle was a beautiful, healthy seven year old boy who loved life…swimming, baseball, camping, and riding his dirt bike.
Kyle was infected with the Naegleria fowleri ameba just days prior while swimming with his family during a camping trip before he started the 2nd grade. His family is now dedicated to making others aware of this deadly ameba.
The family hopes that through education and awareness, they can save lives and heartache for other families. To achieve this goal the Kyle Lewis Amoeba Awareness Foundation was established by them with the goal of informing families of the potential dangers from Naegleria fowleri.
Naegleria is a microscopic ameba that can cause a rare, but severe, infection of the brain. The ameba is commonly found in warm freshwater and soil. Only one species of Naegleria infects people, Naegleria fowleri.
“This week the IAQ Video Network was contact by Kyle’s mother to inquire about their foundation posting a recent educational video that was produced to inform people about this deadly amoeba,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video. “We were delighted to say yes as it is our goal to reach as many people as possible to inform them about various indoor and outdoor environmental threats. We hope this video helps the Kyle Lewis Amoeba Awareness Foundation to educate even more people about ways to protect their health from this organism.”
