Animal feed ingredients - Case Study
Customer: Lloyd’s Animal Feeds, Oswestry, Shropshire, UK
Lloyd’s animal feeds is a leading independent animal feed producer based in the UK. The company’s founding philosophy is to provide their customers with the exact formulation needed to maximise their productivity and profitability.
Application: Analysis of incoming animal feed ingredients plus outgoing finished feed
In many cases Lloyd’s produce a custom specific feed diet optimised for the intended usage, which means that measurement of feed parameters is key to their success. Routine screening of raw materials across the four mills develops a robust data set that is used when setting raw material parameters. This gives confidence that the diets will give the performance required and the declarations will be legal.
Equipment: BUCHI NIRMaster
Lloyd’s Animal feeds performs measurements on all incoming feed materials using a BUCHI NIRMaster FT-NIR Spectrometer configured with AUNIR INGOT pre-calibrations. Samples are placed in an unbreakable cup and feed ingredient parameters are shown within 10 seconds. For the mill at Oswestry where the machine is located, this rapid testing means that all incoming loads of raw materials are sampled and QC checked prior to being tipped into the mill. The direct control over the machine’s operation means that turn-around times are quicker than using third-party testing services.
Benefit / Conclusion: We have come to rely on the BUCHI?
Considering the harsh environment in which the NIRMaster operates, the excellent build quality and robust design are of paramount importance. The machine is easy to use, and the short time needed to generate results means that when investigating any issues, a number of datasets can be generated, giving more confidence in the result.
