Australian milk production in 2018-19 season confirmed
Source: Dairy Australia
Australian milk production in the 2018-19 season (ending 30 June 2019) was 8.8 billion litres, down 5.7 per cent from 9.3 billion litres the previous year.
This is a significant revision up from Dairy Australia’s previous estimate that national milk production would fall between 7 to 9 per cent to 8.45 to 8.65 billion litres.
Total milk production for 2018-19 is confirmed along with the publication of milk production statistics for the month of June. The revision is due to additional data being received for milk supply in northern Victoria and southern NSW, reflecting the volatile production environment in these regions.
Monthly milk production statistics for northern Victoria and southern NSW available via the Dairy Australia website have been updated accordingly.
Dairy Australia anticipates a further drop in national milk production of between 3 and 5 per cent to 8.3 to 8.5 billion litres during the current 2019-20 season, due to continued high input costs and the reduced size of the national herd.
