Baroness Barbara Young, one of the founding members of the Adaptation Sub-Committee (ASC) is leaving the Committee to take up a new post as Chief Executive of Diabetes UK, which will take up a significant portion of her time.

Barbara Young joined the Committee in May 2009 and has made a significant contribution to the ASC’s first report into adaptation in the UK and ongoing work.

Chair of the Adaptation Sub-Committee, Lord John Krebs said:
“Barbara was instrumental in the formation of the ASC and helped the passage of the Climate Change Bill through Parliament. Since then, she has been a valued member of the Committee bringing her considerable practical experience to bear in helping us to think through adaptation issues. I wish her every success in her new role”.

Secretary of State for the Environment, Caroline Spelman said:
“On behalf of Defra I would like to thank Baroness Young for her contribution in raising public awareness of the importance of adapting to future climate change. Her experience and constructive input will be missed.”

Baroness Barbara Young said:
'Can I wish the Adaptation Committee success in its important task of ensuring the UK can tackle the impacts of climate change. No matter how much we reduce our carbon footprint, the impacts of climate change are already out there and we must put in place effective planning to meet them nationally and locally if we are not to see major damage to the economy and heartache and harm to people.'
