HSE announces new post for London and 2012 Olympics

The Health and Safety Executive has announced that Stephen Williams is to take up the newly created post of Director of Field Operations (London) and the Olympics.

Stephen will lead the health and safety regulation of the 2012 Olympics which includes the construction phase, while heading up HSE London Field Operations Division.  He will continue in his current role as Chief Inspector of Construction until the post is filled. 

Joining HSE in 1977 as a factory inspector, Stephen Williams has worked on the Channel Tunnel and Dartford Bridge construction projects and headed HSE’s construction policy team.  He was appointed HM Deputy Chief Inspector of Railways in 2000, and held senior posts in railways technical division and policy. He became HSE’s Chief Inspector of Construction in 2005, and Director of FOD London Division from November 2006.
