A time to get your community up and cheering “the possibilities are endless … compost!”

Holbrook, New York – Whether it’s through backyard, on-site or centralized initiatives, composting is a proven way to help communities sustainably manage their organic residuals. Be a part of the largest environmental education event for composting. The U.S. Composting Council invites you to join in celebrating International Compost Awareness Week, May 6-12, 2007. Celebrated internationally, composting advocates are encouraging everyone to Compost!  With the backdrop of a national poster campaign, the theme “The Possibilities Are Endless – Compost!” is a great way to spread the compost message. All types of composting from backyard to large-scale, community-wide composting is promoted during this week.

Compost Awareness Week is a fun and educational week of events that offers an opportunity to learn more about the many benefits of composting while enjoying interactive activities. “Add the extra benefits of the use of compost for improved soil quality and composting becomes an integral part of our drive towards environmental sustainability,” says Stuart Buckner, U.S. Composting Council Executive Director. To bring positive attention to the possibilities that composting can provide to communities, ICAW was designed to rally composting advocates and build awareness in their communities. Compost discussions, State ICAW proclamations, promotions with local dealers and landscape supply stores, informal lectures by well-known gardening experts, backyard composting bin promotions and urban gardening programs are just some of the many events that are held.
