Kreider Farms Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of Bion Waste Treatment Facility
Venture converts pollution at a cost of 10-50 percent of current systems
MANHEIM, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- A cleaner environment, new local jobs and lower costs…Kreider Farms is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its highly successful livestock waste treatment system, a joint collaboration with Bion Environmental Technologies, Inc.
The first of its kind directly on a farm in the United States, the venture converts animal waste from the Farms’ 1,400 dairy cows into renewable resources. It’s a technology that’s poised to make significant environmental and economic impacts, while addressing agriculture’s most challenging issue.
As an early-adopter of the onsite treatment system, Kreider Farms, in one year’s time, has already realized remarkable reductions in nutrient and environmental impacts, therein lowering environmental impact costs to local, state and Federal authorities.
“Our new Bion system has demonstrated an environmentally and economically beneficial way to generate Chesapeake Bay nitrogen reductions,” said Ron Kreider, president and CEO and the third-generation family leader of Kreider Farms.
This past week, Bion implemented new solids separation technology at Kreider Farms. This system provides verified nitrogen reductions based upon its PA Department of Environmental Protection approved verification plan at a cost of 10-50% of existing municipal waste and storm water costs.
