LimnoTech Co-Authors Fish Behavioral Study
Source: LimnoTech Inc.
LimnoTech staff are co-authors of a recently published study titled “Behavioral and physiological responses of Largemouth Bass Micropterus salmoides to rain-induced reductions in dissolved oxygen in an urban system.” The project sought to understand the response of fishes in urban water systems to hypoxia caused by wet weather discharges. Study elements included tracking the movement of largemouth bass in the Chicago Area Waterway System (CAWS) using internal acoustic transmitters and acoustic telemetry arrays, and conducting a concurrent laboratory study of the same species to understand physiological responses of fishes to depressed DO conditions. During the second year of the study, externally mounted DO tags were placed on free-swimming fishes to understand actual DO exposure at the scale that the fish experience during wet weather events. Authors were Doug Bradley, Penelope Moskus, and John Wolfe (all from LimnoTech), and Greg Gaulke, David Wahl, and Cory Suski. Link
