The aquaculture industry’s ambition of significantly increasing its contribution to solving the complex challenge of feeding the world’s fast growing population can be made a lot easier if it explains what it is doing and what it believes it can achieve, Lord Sebastian Coe told delegates today in his keynote address at AquaVision 2016.
Drawing on the lessons learned during an illustrious career both on and off the track, Lord Coe stressed the importance of delivering on visions, saying he believes that aquaculture has an important role to play in meeting the world’s nutritional needs, particularly in the world’s economically challenged areas.
Just as the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 lived up to the vision of “Inspire a Generation”, Lord Coe said the aquaculture industry must show its leadership by building a culture of awareness and getting everybody to buy into its work and achievements.
“The most important thing is to explain what you do, and why you do it. Pose the challenge and then place yourself as the solution to that challenge, explaining the massive difference this can make,” said Lord Coe.
